Specifications, compatibility and ordering information

The 100G QSFP28 LR4 optical transceiver provides a 100GBASE-LR4 link over duplex single-mode fiber for distances up to 10km. Four 25G-class LAN-WDM optical channels at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58 and 1309.14nm are multiplexed through a duplex LC interface, allowing the module to use a conventional two-fiber SMF path rather than the parallel MPO cabling required by products such as SR4. For projects built around duplex single-mode infrastructure, this makes LR4 a clear 10km option within the 100G optical transceiver portfolio.

For network procurement, the 10km rating should be checked against the actual link rather than treated as the only selection criterion. The target switch, router or NIC should support the required QSFP28 interface and compatibility coding, while the installed fiber path should match the duplex LC and single-mode configuration. Fiber attenuation, connector and splice losses, and the project link budget can also affect whether a nominal 10km LR4 module is appropriate for the completed route.

Before a batch order is confirmed, buyers should make sure the approved specification identifies LR4 rather than another visually similar QSFP28 module, together with the required coding, quantity, labeling, packaging and documentation. Delivery and payment conditions can then be agreed with the commercial order. At receiving, the product label, LR4 designation, duplex LC interface, 10km rating, quantity and any agreed compatibility configuration should be checked against the purchase specification before the batch enters installation or acceptance testing.

For volume sourcing, the practical control point is keeping the approved LR4, duplex-LC and 10km SMF configuration unchanged from technical selection through delivery. This helps prevent a QSFP28 module intended for BiDi, multimode or another reach class from being substituted simply because the housing and port format appear similar.
