Specifications, compatibility and ordering information

The 400G QSFP-DD DR4 optical transceiver is built for 400 Gigabit Ethernet links over parallel single-mode fiber, supporting transmission up to 500 meters with host FEC. The module converts eight PAM4 electrical lanes into four parallel 100G optical lanes and uses an MTP/MPO-12 fiber interface. This makes it suitable for data center interconnect, InfiniBand and enterprise network projects where the approved link design calls for 400GBASE-DR4 rather than a multimode SR interface or an LC-based wavelength-multiplexed module.

For procurement teams, the fiber architecture is one of the first items to verify. DR4 requires a parallel single-mode path and an MPO-12 connection, so a physically compatible QSFP-DD port alone does not confirm that the module will fit the installed network. Buyers comparing products in the 400G optical transceiver range should check the host port mode, available fiber infrastructure, actual link distance and required compatibility coding before approving the part for a project.

For a batch order, several items should normally be settled together with the technical configuration:

  • target switch, router, NIC or InfiniBand platform and required module compatibility;

  • 400GBASE-DR4 link design, MPO-12 cabling and the required 500m transmission range;

  • host FEC support, module coding and any customer-specific identification requirements;

  • order quantity, labeling, packaging, documentation, delivery arrangement and payment terms agreed for the purchase order.

Receiving inspection should then follow the approved order specification. The DR4 designation, QSFP-DD form factor, MPO interface, rated reach, quantity, labels and any agreed coding should be checked before the batch is released for deployment. Where a large quantity is involved, a representative module can also be verified on the intended host platform before the full shipment is introduced into the production network.

For volume sourcing, the main control point is keeping the approved DR4 link design consistent from technical evaluation through shipment. The MPO-12 single-mode path, host FEC, 500m reach and required compatibility should be confirmed before the PO is released, then checked again against the delivered labels and configuration during incoming inspection. An FR4 or other 400G QSFP-DD module should not be substituted solely because the data rate and physical form factor are the same.
